Next one over the weekend, Danielle said her phone died, got locked out of her Tesla, not sure why the car can't be unlocked using an Apple watch or another smartwatch. Elon responded to this saying sure, there are other examples of Elon responding sure and then later that feature actually appears things like Wi-Fi garage door support, a glove box pin feature, disabling mirror auto dimming and a few others. The big question now is when this feature rolls out, if it does, will it be just the ability to unlock your car with your watch or will it be a full blown Tesla watch app as many have requested for years? I know there are some good third party options, I've been using the watch for Tesla now and I'm a fan but it would be nice to have something natively from Tesla.

Let's go back in time May 2021, left wing extremists have claimed responsibility for an arson attack on the power supply at the Gigabrelin construction site. They called themselves the Volcano Group and they said Tesla is neither green ecological nor social, our fire is against the lie of the green automobile. Back to today and the same group is at it yet again with another arson attack on the power supply at Gigabrelin. They said together we're bringing Tesla to its knees, we sabotage Tesla today. Tesla does not expect production to resume this week and they're estimating the damage will end up in the nine figure range. The group said Tesla eats up earth, resources, people labor and spits out SUVs, killing machines and monster trucks in return. Because the complete destruction of the Gigafactory and with it the sawing off of techno fascists like Elon are a step on the path to liberation from patriarchy. The group is also calling for attacks on Tesla vehicles, every activist secret poetry album should not miss a beaten up Tesla, no Tesla in the world should be safe from our flaming rage. The fire took place this morning around 5am, all of Gigabrelin was evacuated and presumably all of the production has been shut down.
Of course branded birds officials are stepping in and saying things like the constitutional state will react to such an act of sabotage with the utmost severity but I don't have my hopes up because again this group has done this three years ago and they're back for more. You know some reports are saying that nobody was injured, others are saying that a few people were injured and they're saying that this political debate in the area is causing serious damage to our society. Back to Tesla they expect it will take quote some time until the damage can be repaired and the factory can be supplied with electricity again. But just a few lines later they said as of late Tuesday morning most of Tesla's area has been supplied with electricity again. There was also a police operation due to suspected explosives. To be clear this volcano group is entirely separate from the Grunhida Citizens Initiative and is separate from the environmental protesters setting up treehouses in the forest. The citizens initiative group distanced themselves from this fire saying they prefer peaceful methods but they will still hold their opposition demonstration next Sunday. Jigibrelin News on X shared this image saying this is what the terrorists have caused. Reuters is saying the outage will cost Tesla estimated losses in the high hundreds of millions of euros with 1000 vehicles left unfinished on Tuesday alone. A company official was non-committal on whether this would affect plans to double capacity at the site but condemned what he saw as negative sentiment towards it.

I would not be too concerned about this. In fairness a company official is not going to be focused on the expansion plans as this situation is still currently unfolding. It's not just Tesla that was affected, York Steinbach said other areas in the surrounding region, places like hospitals and homes for the elderly were also impacted. Elon said these are either the dumbest eco-terrorists on earth or their puppets of those who don't have good environmental goals, stopping production of electric vehicles rather than fossil fuel vehicles is extremely dumb. Another source has Tesla's plant manager saying it will take some time to get power back to the factory and that Tesla does not expect production to be started up again this week. Translation, it sounds like at a minimum Tesla is going to lose production of about 6000 units. I'll just say it, I think Tesla needs to be swinging a heavy hammer here. You cannot have this group calling for things like the complete destruction of the Gigafactory and outright harm to any Tesla vehicle. Those claims and this action puts not only Tesla employees at risk but also any Tesla customer in that area. The Prime Minister did not rule out the possibility this could be a form of terrorism and if the suspicion is confirmed, the Federal Prosecutor General will have to take over the investigation. Rohan Patel chimed in saying that no Tesla employees were injured in this attack. This is flat out insane behavior and really puts into perspective some of these other protesters in Gigabrelin like those people camping in the forest. This takes the protesting to an entirely different level and brings a whole new level of financial implications that Tesla now has to deal with. As far as I can tell so far, right now no arrests have been made. Quarter one has already been trending to be a less than stellar quarter and this certainly is not going to help the matter. People suggest saying they talk to a source who had some information about the Model 3 performance. Now they're saying the launch is set for May but Tesla still has some challenges to overcome. Their insider is saying a team of 20 engineers made their way to China from Fremont to help fix some of these problems. Two of those issues, suspension and new motor adaptability. Their sources are confirming that this variant is indeed going to be ludicrous and all they shared was the image of an actual ludicrous badge. This part sounds a bit suspect though, they said Fremont sent 20 engineers to help the Chinese. Shanghai plant division fixed those problems with new motor adaptability. The Fremont factory is apparently at the forefront of spearheading the Model 3 highland research and development aspect. So maybe that's the case for this ludicrous variant but everything we've heard previously is that it's actually the Chinese R&D team that was largely responsible for the Model 3 Plus design. The word is those 20 Fremont engineers are back home meaning that possibly that problem has been solved. They're saying it's two motors confirmed for the Model 3 ludicrous that one certainly checks out. They're saying the Model 3 ludicrous will launch in the USA and China in the same month. And if they're saying it's going to launch in May then we'll see if that holds true. Definitely some interesting tidbits and from here forward I am now going to refer to this vehicle as the Model 3 ludicrous given everything that we've been hearing.
One of the main auto safety organizations in Europe, the Euro NCAP just said, the overuse of touch screens is an industry wide problem with almost every automaker moving key controls onto central touch screens. Ablaging drivers to take their eyes off the road and raising the risk of distraction crashes. New Euro NCAP tests due in 2026 will encourage manufacturers to use separate physical controls for basic functions in an intuitive manner limiting eyes off the road and therefore promoting safer driving. The Euro NCAP is not insisting on everything being its own button or switch but the organization wants to see physical controls for turn signals, hazard lights, wipers, the horn and any SOS features. Very important to note, the Euro NCAP is not a government regulator so they don't actually have any power to mandate these feature changes. However, the problem is getting a 5 star safety score from the Euro NCAP is a big selling point so could Tesla score be dinged if they don't make certain changes.
Bear in mind, this is not rolling out until 2026 and things could definitely change before then. Plus, most of these safety agencies don't require automakers to have perfect scores across all categories to get that 5 out of 5 stars. Sawyer shared a ridiculous headline, could the $6 billion legal fee in Elon's Tesla pay case be reasonable? Elon responded saying, that's how you know the reporter really hates Tesla and or is being fed this bs by a PR aka propaganda company paid by the lawyers. As we talked about last week, that fee breaks down to $289,000 for each of the 37 lawyers that worked on this case. Yesterday, I mentioned looking through Tesla owners manuals can actually be enjoyable, well here's one example of just that. They have a section for normal operating sounds and this one is cabin noise during acceleration with ludicrous, enabled. Oh shit. You gotta love it. To be clear, that's not new, it's been around for a few years but in case you've never seen it before.
Full beev sales in Australia for February have set a new record when it comes to market share sitting at 9.6%. That's higher than the prior record that was June last year when it was at 8.8%. The Model 3 Plus became Australia's best selling passenger car in the month outpacing the Toyota RAV4. The top 10 best selling EVs only for February have the Model 3 and the Model Y in first and second by a significant margin. Tesla has launched a scathing attack on Australia's main auto industry lobby group accusing it of attempting to delay climate action by repeatedly making plainly false claims to the public about an Albany's government clean car policy. In case you're confused, the Albany's government is the federal executive government of Australia led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of the Australian Labor Party. In a submission to the government about the design of a vehicle efficiency standard, Tesla sharply criticized the federal chamber of automotive industries, FCAI, an organization in which it holds a board seat and is an active member.
A long story short, all you need to know, Tesla is criticizing FCAI for running public campaigns, basically trying to brainwash people into thinking that these changes would lead to much higher vehicle prices, which in Tesla's eyes is not at all how the program would work. Tesla said the FCAI knew that its targets would actually allow car makers to increase emissions because of enormous loopholes that create hundreds of thousands of EVs that only exist on paper. The FCAI has been claiming the price of the most popular petrol and diesel cars would jump by thousands of dollars under this government plan and they're describing the policy as a family car and youth tax. The thing is, a vehicle emission standard is not a tax, it requires car companies to meet a per kilometer emissions target averaged across all the new cars it sells in a new year. I said multiple times last year, prepare for the FUD and the attacks to increase because right now we are sitting in this chasm on the adoption curve after the early adopters right before the majority.
Translation, the established industry knows that if they have any chance of stopping a company like Tesla or EVs at scale, now is the time to apply the full court pressure. Because if and I believe when we cross over this chasm, there really will be no turning back that EVs are the future. What we put right now is the last chance for the industry, the established players, to delay the EV transition, to milk their ice profits as long as they can before many of these older CEOs retire and sail off into the sunset, leaving the problem for whoever's next. Given the trillion dollar industries that Tesla is disrupting, I'm just telling you, prepare yourself mentally for all of the negativity and nonsense that's out there right now and that will most likely continue to ramp up over the next 1-2 years.
Sawyer said Elon's going to speak at Morgan Stanley's Technology Media in Telecom Conference this Wednesday at 11.45am. It would be so nice if the interviewer did not ask the same repetitive questions over and over we hear all the time and thus elicits the same responses from Elon over and over. But I'm not holding my breath for anything different. We had Chris Hilbert on X using a website inspector to find some possible information about Rivians upcoming R2 series. Rivians R2 is supposed to be a smaller SUV that will compete directly with the Model Y. Before we get into these specs that Chris shared, I just want to say, there's no guarantee that the final production version has anything close to these numbers. These could be placeholders, these could be internal goals. This vehicle, best case scenario, probably doesn't go into production until 2026 so just keep all of that context in mind.
Starting price $47,500. However, it's unclear, does that include the $7,500 tax credit because Rivian has said that yes, this vehicle will qualify. Range up to 330 miles, so that's on the high end and remember this is the entry level price so you're not going to pay 47.5 for 330 miles of range most likely. Zero to 60 in 3 seconds, which would be awesome, 5-seater, and a max ground clearance of 9.8 inches, the rest will be more effective having side by side to the Model Y. The Model Y starting price with no tax credit, $44,000, range on the high end up to 310 miles, zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds, seats 5 or 7. The Model Y length is 1.5 inches longer at 187.

The Model Y width with the mirrors is 0.6 inches smaller at 83.8 inches, the overall height of the vehicle is 2.9 inches smaller at 64 inches, and the Model Y max ground clearance is 6.8 inches but that is listed as width 2 passengers. The Model Y wheelbase is 1.8 inches shorter at 113.8 inches and yes, he had a typo for the Rivian wheelbase. Look, if the R2 production numbers come in anywhere near these figures, it should be a very popular vehicle. The massive elephant in the room though, and the only thing that matters in the long term, is what will Rivian's margins look like if they sell the vehicle with those stats.

Don't forget, the Model Y might be another few thousand dollars cheaper when 2026 rolls around. I'm definitely hopeful for the R2, this leak was certainly encouraging but don't forget Rivian still has to make it to 2026. Jaguar just announced they'll halt production of their gas powered models by June of this year. This is part of their plan to transition into an EV-only brand by 2025. This transition includes the end of the eyepace, their first EV they dropped in 2018 by the end of this year. The end of the eyepace and XF models is a prelude to the launch of Jaguar's next gen EVs. The company has plans for three new EVs to be built on their Jaguar electric architecture. The plan for the first one of these will be a four-seat electric GT car with its targeted price around 100,000 Euro. Their transition strategy involves a calculated wind down of its gas powered models while ensuring a continuous supply of vehicles until the new electric models are ready for market. With almost all other automakers going the opposite direction, pulling back on EVs and focusing more on hybrid or gas, it's really refreshing to see articles like this even though Jaguar isn't really a high volume player.
Here's a look at the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona. The first two-door all electric chargers will go on sale this summer. The charger lineup will be available in two and four-door trims and will either be pure electric or ice variants as well. The EV variants get a 400-volt architecture but the SRT Banshee variant will be on 800 volts. All chargers, gas or electric will have standard all-wheel drive. Production of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona two-door EV will begin in the middle of this year at a plant in Canada. They're saying the SCAT pack will have a zero to 60 time of 3.3 seconds. For now, all of the electric chargers will have two motors but down the line they'll offer a variant with one.
They'll also start off with a 100.5 kilowatt hour battery pack. They'll use Samsung's prismatic cells from Korea in the first year and then shift to ones made in Kokomo in the United States when that plant is up in 2025. The range will be 317 miles for the RT and 264 the SCAT pack. They'll charge at peak speeds of 350 kilowatts. The engineer said we want to be able to say my car gets 50 miles less range but my car is cooler. And no yeah you better believe it there will be different sounds for each drive mode. Tesla China's weekly insurance data came in lower than most of the analysts were expecting at 12,500 for the week comparing that to the same week in quarter four. That number was 17,400.
As expected Tesla will not be setting a new quarterly record in quarter one but comparing to quarter one of 2023 Tesla is still 8.5% ahead of that pace. I did want to mention meat Kevin was kind of implying that the sky was falling a little bit for Tesla sales if you compare January and February this year to the same time frame last year to smooth out for the Chinese New Year. It is true that comparing January and February this year to the same two months last year right now we are about 6% shy of that pace. We're only two months into the year but if this trend for Giga Shanghai wholesale were to continue then Tesla is going to need to make up that difference in some other markets around the world. It's now official Monroe and associates have their hands on a cyber truck and they said this is the beginning of their cyber truck tear down what many of us have now been waiting for for some time.
I think you all know this is going to be a special series from Monroe. What were we talking about just last week with the massive growth expected in these data centers it just makes sense to outfit them with renewable energy and battery storage. Today Amazon web services has acquired Talon Energy's Data Center campus at a nuclear power station in PA. Talon said AWS aims to develop a 960 megawatt data center campus. If you head over to X replying to someone posting this article Elon said interesting. Brian responded with data from Frost and Sullivan saying US data center power use is expected to triple by 2030. Gregor truck shared some data showing the current charge curve for an 800 volt NACS charger using the cyber truck.
This was not from a supercharger but from this company NXU. The black line is the state of charge on the right and then you have the gold line showing the kilowatts. The peak voltage of this session was 814 volts and that resulted in a 327 kilowatt charging speed albeit temporarily. So the cyber truck went from 0 to 50% state of charge in about 17 minutes. But going from 0 to 80 it still took about 40 minutes because as you can see it did not hold those peak charging speeds for very long at all. After five minutes it tapered off pretty dramatically. Throughout the majority of this charge curve the speeds were between about 180 and we'll call it 70 kilowatts. Certainly still some work to be done with a 4680 battery chemistry.
Neil reported its net loss for 2023 it came in at $2.9 billion. Look at this thing. Li Auto just launched its first pure electric vehicle the mega supposedly the world's largest electric vehicle in mass production starting at $77,800. Li Auto did just report their first annual profit but they also focus on extended range EVs which have a generator powered by gas that can recharge their smaller batteries. It's a form of a hybrid but technically it's more similar to a full B.E.V. than something like one of Toyota's hybrids. But this mega full B.E.V. has three OLED screens and AI based interactive voice command system built in massagers and a car fridge.
VW faces a pair of lawsuits in Germany over claims it was the battery in a Porsche EV that triggered that 2022 fire onboard a cargo ship that eventually sank with thousands of cars on board. Adam Jonas and Morgan Stanley put out a new Tesla stock note and they said if there was ever a time for Tesla to potentially post a gap EBIT loss in the auto business it might be this year.
The main reasons Tesla's product is relatively aged. EV demand is decelerating in key markets. The Chinese EV market is over supplied leading to price cuts and the hybrid of renaissance. For the fiscal year 2024 they've revised down their expectations for Tesla's auto gross margin down to 11.4% from 13.2. This is without regulatory credit sales. They're expecting the trough for this figure in quarter two of 9.9% setting the bar pretty low. They said we believe Tesla has significant attributes to be valued as an AI beneficiary but the company must see a stabilization in the negative earnings revision within the auto business first. This process may take a few more quarters to see through over which time our $100 bear case may be in play.
Despite the negative sentiment they still have a $320 Tesla stock price target. There are some new cyber truck accessories including a vault cargo bins and under seat storage bins. Tesla stock closed the day at $180.74 down 3.93% while the Nasdaq was down 1.8%. Today Tesla traded about 12 million shares over the average 30 day volume.
