Hey everybody Rob now we're here and today should be a pretty quick one we don't have a whole lot of Tesla news but we do have updated China insured vehicle numbers we've got a new patent publication a couple of legal reports and a few other items as well. Also a pretty quiet day for the markets today as we head into the FOMC meeting results tomorrow Tesla today up about a half a percent to close at $266.50 an Aztec down about a quarter of a percent.
All right we'll start off with Tesla insured vehicle numbers so for the week of September 11th through the 17th there were 8,500 Tesla's insured in China. This is another week over week drop down about 2,000 vehicles from the week prior and this now puts the quarter to date trend below Q3 so about 120,000 insured through the first 11 weeks here in Q3 through the first 11 weeks of Q2 that number was 126,000 and Q2 finished very strong jumping all the way to 160,000 for the quarter. So if this pace that we're seeing right now kind of continues we should expect Q3 to finish somewhere down between 10 and 15 percent or so to that Q2 record.
Now of course what we're seeing here is the impact of the transition in the model three. This number this week is primarily almost entirely model Y vehicles and we expect that to continue for the next couple of weeks even though model three highline production has started it looks like all those vehicles right now are likely destined for Europe so we probably won't see any highland model threes in China until Q4. So nothing here surprising we've been talking about this impact for quite a while now but as we continue to get these numbers it's going to give us a better and better sense of where total deliveries for Q3 worldwide might come in at.
Now kind of relevant to that point I did get a comment yesterday that got a few likes so probably worth addressing here it's very unhappy that Tesla daily does not report on the complete stop of production of model Y vehicles in Texas Joe Tagmires reported that production ceased two weeks ago and would not restart for another week or 10 days how can Tesla daily report this happy talk of 5 million vehicles and as of now production in Texas has halted. So I did talk about these reports in a couple of other episodes we talked about the new production equipment that Joe had spotted coming into Gigatexus. We also talked about the removal of the 4680 model Y from the design studio which is of course made in Texas but maybe I could have been a little bit more explicit or given a more recent update on the situation which is that things do still seem to be slow or paused at Gigatexus right now. I don't think it's at all relevant to contrast that versus Tesla hitting a 5 million vehicle production milestone though that's a huge lifetime milestone for Tesla that's been accomplished in large part because of previous production shutdowns like this to make improvements, make upgrades and ultimately drive production higher so there shouldn't be a contrast with a happy milestone here for Tesla just because there's some downtime in Gigatexus that is not a unhappy event by any means probably the opposite as Tesla gets ready here for Cybertruck and hopefully the next generation 4680 cell and we had notice from Tesla on the Q2 earnings call that there was going to be various instances of production downtime this quarter for implementing of upgrades. Obviously that applies to the transition from Model 3 Highland but isn't necessarily restricted to just that so hopefully that helps clarify and although I'm addressing the feedback I do appreciate it so that if there is some inconsistency in what I think has been talked about versus what has been heard we can get everybody then on the same page.
All right next up we've got a newly published patent from Tesla this is according to the abstract for a battery system which includes multiple cells arranged in a common cell enclosure that can also be used for a structure and heat transfer fluid conduit so it mentions structural battery here I don't think it's necessarily relating exactly to what we would think of as a structural battery patent from Tesla this talks about integrations for not just electric vehicles but also for energy storage systems and other use cases to me it seems to mostly focus on how the collector plate and battery cells are integrated but beyond that probably outside of my technical knowledge however the patent number is 11 764 432 if you do want to look that up from the USPTO.
Next I just want to quickly check in on Model S and Model X since the pretty significant price cuts we have seen Model X wait times already move out once they've now been updated again estimated deliveries now sitting in November to December for new orders Model S still a little bit earlier October to November but in a Q4.
Anecdotally just kind of checking from what seems to be available on Tesla's site it seems like inventory on both of these has also gone down quite a bit. since those price cuts so at least for now they seem to have been pretty effective but obviously the big question is how the sustained order rate looks after such a big price drop which is obviously going to lead to an influx of orders plus we've also got the combination here in Q3 of the impact of the FSD transfer which will end for vehicles delivered past September.
Next we've got a quick note on Tesla energy CS energy out of Australia has shared on X a time lapse of their recent mega pack project being installed gives us a nice look at this project which is in total a 200 megawatt hour project this is one that we had talked about previously and as crazy as it seems almost a small scale project for Tesla at this point but fun to see a little bit behind the scenes and this project is scheduled to come online this year.
All right next up we've got a couple of reports on legal matters the first is from Tesla Roddy they had an article today talking about how Tesla has been cleared of any wrongdoing in a lawsuit brought by shareholders relating to various workplace allegations important to note though that Tesla has not actually been cleared of any wrongdoing here the judge basically threw the case out for the time being without prejudice which means that the plaintiff can actually refile this case apparently there were some people on the lawsuit that weren't actually impacted during the period of time that was discussed in the lawsuit so that would need to be corrected but they can file an amended complaint within 30 days either way I don't think this ends up being something that is very material to Tesla but just wanted to make that a little bit clearer and then the other report that we've got today is from the Wall Street Journal they continue your report on this issue with Elon's glass house that he supposedly was trying to build we've talked about this a couple of times there have been a number of reports from the Wall Street journal on this with very little new information I might add which again to me seems to be the case today a pretty long article without a lot of new information the headline reads Justice Department probe scrutinizes Elon Musk perks at Tesla going back years so we've already known that they've been investigating what exactly happened with this glass house situation the new part of this I think is covered in the first sentence which says that federal prosecutors are scrutinizing personal benefits Tesla have provided Elon Musk since 2017 longer than previously known as a part of a criminal investigation examining issues including a proposed house for the chief executive so the investigation had been previously reported it seems like they're just adding that it is now going back further than what they previously knew which I guess is good to know if accurate but the materiality of it that probably up for debate the report also says that the US Attorney's office for the southern district of New York has also sought information about transactions between Tesla and other entities connected to the billionaire according to people familiar with the matter I don't know for sure if that had been previously reported or not their wording isn't entirely clear on that but something that is reportedly being looked at now they also note that Tesla is one of several companies that has received questions about executive perks from the Justice Department or the SEC given the history here I think it's unsurprising that they're investigating and looking for something and Elon moves pretty fast I think it's possible that they'd find something that they're not super happy with but we'll have to wait and see what comes of it.
All right last couple of things for today couple of reports of Toyota showing off a prototype for new giga casting equipment which would allow them to cast a rear or front third of a car similarly to Tesla this isn't the first time we've heard about these plans for Toyota they have talked about giga casting before for a new EV scheduled for 2026 so still probably a ways out and obviously Toyota timelines may not come to fruition in that way but something that they are working on
and then just a quick check-in on the ongoing UAW strike it had previously been reported that some members of the Biden administration were going to be heading to Detroit to kind of assist with these negotiations just seems a little bit odd but CNBC reporting today that that visit not actually happening though if you read the article it actually says that it is still happening but just happening over zoom instead anyway as the negotiations are ongoing it looks like they are setting up for additional strikes happening on Friday if no agreement is met by then it's also kind of interesting that unions in Canada for these three automakers are also having negotiations right now looked like they were scheduled to strike yesterday then they had a one-day extension we'll see if they're able to reach a negotiation conclusion today that may have a bit of influence on how things unfold in the US
and then lastly for today Neuralink has announced that they are opening recruitment for their first inhuman clinical trials noting that if you have quadriplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or ALS you may qualify so if you know someone that may qualify for that you can find the patient registry at Neuralink.com
all right that'll wrap it up for today so as always thank you for listening make sure you're subscribed and signed up for notifications also find me on x at tesla podcast
