And just a heads up to everyone who has taken delivery of a new Tesla the past few weeks when it comes to AI4 and FSD version 13, sometimes Tesla is reluctant to send software updates quickly after owners take delivery. My point being don't panic if you don't have version 13 just yet, just give it a couple days, maybe a few weeks and you should be good to go if you have AI4. And if you've taken delivery of a new vehicle the past few weeks, you do. A heads up tomorrow, December 18th, Tesla is hosting a live Q&A event with a few Cybertruck engineers at their new location in North Hollywood. It starts at 5pm but you do have to register so if you're interested I'll have this below. Given all of the excitement with Tesla AI right now, there's some people saying that Tesla's auto sales are now irrelevant. And yes, they've absolutely taken a back seat but Tesla's fleet numbers and overall EV adoption is certainly not irrelevant so I'm going to continue tracking sales data.
On that note, here's a quick look at Tesla China January through November this year. And remember this column off to the right I have highlighted in blue that was the reading the last time around. So for example, this negative 3.4% was the reading January through October. Now we have the data January through November. It's there so you can see the difference in the data from the last reading to the present one. Thus, Gigaschang High's wholesale data year to date is down 3.7%. The domestic sales are up 8.1%. Exports are down 23.6% and production is down 4.1%. So as we've been saying domestically for Gigaschang High things have been great but they really should be as Tesla has multiple incentives available for customers in the region. 0% APR for 5 years if you buy a Model 3 or Y, additional incentives on the Model Y then the government has that cash for clunkers program if you trade in an ice car for an EV and a lot of those incentives are expected to go away at the end of December. But that domestic strength is being offset by much weaker export numbers.
Looking at week 11 for Gigaschang High, that number came in at 18,452 compared to the same weekend quarter 3 that number was 15,600. So quarter over quarter, Tesla China is up 10.48%. To set a new record quarterly number Tesla will have to do just over 10,874 units per week over the last two weeks. The reading for week 11 Q4 last year was 18,300. So year over year, Tesla China is now up 15.59%. I did go ahead and add this year to date comparison highlighted in purple. Since we're in week 11 right now, this is year to date through week 11 in 2023 and it'll be the same comparison year to date 2024 through the current week which is week 11. And using that year to date data, Tesla China is up 7.86%.
Just remember this year over year comparison is comparing the quarter and this year over year comparison is comparing the year to date numbers. And at the bottom I have the total for 2023 so it's true that already year to date for 2024 Tesla has surpassed the figure for all of 2023 again with two weeks left. On the delivery front, the key number for Tesla in quarter four is 515,000 about if they can hit that number that means they'll avoid a year over year decline in overall global sales. Right now the analyst consensus is about 510,000 and Tesla has never delivered over 500,000 units in one quarter. This definitely might be the first but time will tell. Either way though, we're likely looking at flat year over year sales growth and 25 may not be much easier, especially if the EV tax credit does go away.
A quick note, Xiaomi, the smartphone maker over in China that's trying its hand in the EV world has been doing quite well early on with its SU 7 which obviously is a direct competitor to the model three and they're about to launch their model Y competitor, the YU 7. We'll see if Xiaomi can sustain these sales numbers but it's been so far so good a brand to watch.
Some of you are asking for a Cybertruck sales update so here's something from Troy. He said on November 10th, Gigatexis cut the Cybertruck production rate by 56%. I won't explain this chart from Troy because I think he likes to keep that for Patreon members only but here's that cut in production that he was referring to.
We also had Electric citing some inside sources saying that Tesla was removing the foundation series badge from some Cybertrucks to actually sell it at a lower price point. Now before you go yelling at the screen saying Dylan how could you bring up anything from Fred and Electric just stick with me for a second.

If you order a Cybertruck today on the website you should be able to take delivery in the next two weeks. And for whatever reason on the personal side of things the Cybertruck is still not officially qualified for the consumer tax credit. What I'm trying to say is it looks like a majority of the hundreds of thousands of reservations that people had are still waiting for a lower priced Cybertruck.
Personally I'm not ready to draw any dogmatic conclusions but certainly some trends to watch as we head into 2025. But on the Fred and Electric thing look I obviously know the entire backstory in Fred's ill will toward Tesla if you will. But for me my job is to look past my bias and emotions and just look at the data and the sources and see if there's anything we can learn.
Electric also said that Tesla was having issues with a new version of AI4 and it was short circuiting resulting in failures of certain features. And as expected most people in the comments were just giving Fred a hard time about him selling his Tesla shares and telling him how salty he sounds. But instead of having that fun I just went to look for any data and people reporting on this problem.
The sources said this problem had been going on for months and I was able to find this thread on Reddit. 2024 and 2025 Model Y AI4 short computer failures thread. Spoiler alert there are dozens of comments from Tesla customers saying that this problem has happened to them. One user said AI4 car computer remove and replace appointment set for December 11th 2024.

Then later that user said the appointment was delayed to mid January. Someone else said they were contacted by Tesla and the tech from my local service center told me Tesla has told them to stop replacing the computers until they get to the root cause. He said they're going to try to fix it with a software update and to expect 30 days. I'll stop here just know there's plenty more in this thread I'll have it linked if you want to check it out.
Based on what I can gather this is definitely not a widespread issue but maybe something like less than 1% of deliveries over the past few months. So whether Tesla replaces these computers or fixes this with a software update the overall point is don't let your emotions stop you from getting to the bottom of certain data.
You guys know I'm no fan of Fred or electric but based on the data it looks like there may actually be a small problem that Tesla needs to fix here and it's good for owners to be aware of it. I'm sure you've heard by now but a show did say FSD version 13.2.1 is now rolling out wide to AI4 customers.
That plus the holiday vehicle software update is coming within a week. The team's working on a much updated version 12.6 for AI3 customers by the end of this year. For whatever it's worth for me I'm not yet ready to say that AI3 owners will never get a version 13 branch. However I'll be honest after reading this a few times part of me does feel like this is Tesla telling the world you know what this may be the first to buy forcation of AI4 and hardware 3.
Hopefully that 5 to 10% of me that feels that way is totally wrong and in quarter one Tesla drops version 13 for hardware 3. The thing is we know that version 13 is the first version to use the higher resolution AI4 cameras. Those AI4 cameras have a resolution of 5.4 megapixels compared to the 1.2 megapixels of hardware 3.
Plus version 13 increases the frame rate up to 36 per second. So look I don't want to read too far into this all I'm saying is if I was a hardware 3 owner I would begin preparing myself for this possibility of this new bifurcation in the FSD versions. But that's only out of an abundance of caution I think the more likely scenario is that Tesla wants this 12.6 to go out by the end of the year to give hardware 3 owners something and then sometime next year they'll be ready to give version 13.
But there is at least a chance that the team can't backport the entire version 13 to hardware 3. Not a Tesla app said version 12.6 for hardware 3 should have end to end on the highway earlier in more natural lane changes, speed profiles, auto set speed to be max and collecting audio for detecting emergency vehicles. Just remember none of this from not a Tesla app is actually official and there's still always the hope for hardware 3 owners that Tesla does eventually offer a free upgrade. I know it's still very early for this wider release of version 13 but so far it's still incredibly hard to find any critical feedback on this version.
Brian from Futuraza said it was amazing all of the little problems are fixed maybe not all but 90% of what was left to fix just wow. Elon replied saying it only gets better from here. Jeff Lutz said it felt like I was controlling the car with my mind it did everything I wanted it to the way I wanted it to. Elon shared that saying try the latest Tesla self-driving software it will blow your mind. People can get a little bit crazy in this turning median so you got to play a little bit of a subtle dance we don't have any incoming traffic to the median right now so it makes it a bit easier we get into cute wow just so smooth too like no anxiety in the car whatsoever as it's getting into this turning median all right we progress on up we have a stop sign but we would need to stop anyway we have oncoming vehicles coming down Westlake Houston Parkway and as soon as that moves we got a gap and we take it perfect putting on our blinker got a cart guy right there wow wow holy moly colly that was so good the cart guy had a car coming out and then avoided the the loose cart all right now it's trying to park ironically right next to a model y all right taking its time time wow I mean absolutely perfect that's feature complete right there what are we gonna do two lane two way one is gonna yeah what's it gonna do now I'm just gonna go up there because this goes spot to pull over and let this guy through all right let's see if it doesn't yes yes yes yes yes yes that was good wow it saw that can you believe like that's a very subtle feature i'm sure most of you have already seen that clip but hearing James down mug it so amped up is must see tv in my opinion all i can really say for now is the excitement is continuing to build indonesia is now trying to pitch elon on building some data centers for xai in the region at this point though luhat is basically looking for elon to do anything new venture wise in indonesia previously they offered ideas for a battery factory but elon turned that down because he said they're going to do that in the us which makes sense because it's much closer to teslas factories however luhat and elon are planning to meet in february to discuss this data center opportunity.

here's where i'm sensing desperation from the competition honda and nissan will enter negotiations toward a merger joining their resources to better compete against tesla and chinese ev makers honda and nissan are considering operating under a holding company and soon will sign a memorandum of understanding and mou the details of which will be worked out later they'll also look to eventually bring in mitzu bishi motors honda and nissan entered a strategic partnership in august on shared automotive components and software don't forget earlier this year honda said they would cut capacity in china by 500 000 vehicles which is about 10% of honda's global output earlier this year we had sources at nissan saying the brand has just 12 to 14 months to survive and nissan ceo himself admitted the company missed the memo on north america's demand for hybrids plus faced with slumping sales nissan plans to reduce its global production capacity by 20 and cut about 9 000 jobs or just under 10 of its total workforce but let's broaden our scope a bit this is part of why i enjoy following the news because over time you can pick up on trends earlier this year gm and honda signed a non-binding agreement to begin cooperating at several levels everything from raw materials to software was on the table the main goal sharing resources on ev development there's more toyota and bmw decided to join forces to push through the headwinds on fuel cell vehicles and i'm sure many of you remember the new joint venture between rivian and vw you get the picture these companies that have been competitors for decades are now reaching out to each other saying hey do you want to work together to try to find a way to compete with tesla and the chinese ev makers the complexity and complication that these joint ventures bring to these business models and the overhead and the decision making it all just becomes so muddy it is absolutely a sign of desperation it will take time for all of this to play out but the great consolidation has most certainly begun
Waymo has announced it'll start testing its autonomous vehicles in Tokyo in early 2025. Not only would this be Waymo's first international expansion, but it would be its first foray into a left-hand drive market. However, Waymo has not committed to start commercial service in Tokyo yet. Waymo will partner with Japan's largest taxi operator Nihon Kotsu and Taxi Apco to begin its testing. To start, Kotsu drivers will manually operate the Waymo vehicles to map key areas of the capital. Waymo will also test its robo-taxis on a closed course in the U.S. built to mimic driving conditions in Japan. The Japanese taxi service will oversee the management and servicing of Waymo's vehicles in Japan.
Waymo is doing its best to scale. They announced Miami for 2025, talked about Atlanta in Austin in partnership with Uber around the corner, and what's nice about Tokyo is they have designated certain areas as test zones for self-driving cars. An update from the Supercharger team with plenty of holiday travel ahead, Max said we're prepared by scrubbing the network to be close to 100 uptime. They're deploying attendance and Tesla Megapack chargers at our busiest sites. They'll have their 24/7 365 operation center at Gig in New York, and they'll still be opening new superchargers throughout the holidays. And he said if you ever have to wait, note that our models detected and those superchargers become a top priority for everyone at Tesla charging.
Max was asked if Tesla superchargers are bidirectional, to which he said they technically are capable. I think we all knew it was coming, but the drumbeat is getting louder. Sweeping changes are incoming. The summary: These changes will be to cut off support for EVs and charging stations and to strengthen measures blocking cars components and battery materials from China. Trump's team also recommends imposing tariffs on all battery materials globally and then negotiating individual exemptions with allies. And yes, the team is still calling to end the EV tax credit. They're suggesting clawing back whatever funds remain to build charging stations and shifting that money to battery minerals processing and the national defense supply chain and critical infrastructure.

I'm not sure I agree with this. They said while batteries, minerals, and other EV components are critical to defense production, EVs and charging stations are not. Maybe they mean the material that goes into these EV components, but please let me know why. I'm struggling to understand this. For me, though, the worst part of this is they're now planning to roll back emissions and fuel economy standards. They want to shift those regulations back to 2019 levels, which would allow an average of about 25 more emissions per vehicle mile than the current 2025 limits. And the average fuel economy would be about 15 percent lower. They're also recommending blocking California from setting its own stricter vehicle emissions standards.
Look, I don't want to sound too biased here, but I can't see rolling back these emission standards as anything other than putting greed and profit and catering to these automakers and their whining. They're putting all of that above everyone's health. Sadly, I'm not at all surprised. If there is a silver lining here, they said one of the proposals is waiving environmental reviews to speed up federally funded EV infrastructure projects, including battery recycling and production charging stations in critical mineral manufacturing. So they want to expedite these federally funded EV infrastructure projects, but they also want to take all of the money off the table for those projects.
One more proposal: They want to eliminate the requirements that federal agencies buy EVs. I think all of that is great context for understanding why what Tesla is doing at Corpus Christi is going to be so important in the long run, especially if Tesla faces more tariffs on anything really coming from China or other adversarial nations. Tesla North America shared: "We fed raw material through our kiln of our lithium refinery for the first time. The lithium market always goes through bear and bull cycles, but we know over the long term this is going to be a money printing business. And now with potentially even more tariffs slapped onto any battery materials coming into the U.S. from outside, it makes what Tesla is doing domestically that much more important."
I want everyone to be careful with this one. We have Mike Bens who was on Joe Rogan recently saying the Biden administration paid Reuters over 300 million dollars in government contracts. 11 different Biden government agencies targeted Elon's businesses. We know that, we've been talking about that all year. He said all 11 agencies paid millions of dollars to Reuters. Reuters then won the Pulitzer prize for their work on Elon and misconduct at his businesses. First thing I want to highlight, if you go to USA spending dot gov you can actually see these transactions, but most of the payments actually go to Thomson Reuters which yes is technically a different entity than roiters news and media.
Just know that tomsen roiters actually does a lot more than just news and media they do things like legal tax accounting and oftentimes that work is for the government but it is true that the roiters news and media that we're familiar with is part of tomsen roiters but if you change the filters and highlight only the years when trump was president you'll find very similar transactions here they are for trump's term most of these do also go to tomsen roiters if you scroll far enough eventually you see some for roiters news and media bill league shared this information saying law fair to which elon said 100 elon shared it saying corrupt legacy media paid for by deep state democrats shan mcguyer said if the media actually did its job they'd quickly realize biden has been the most corrupt president of the modern era but instead the media is too busy taking biden's money to investigate elon elon's mother said for sure the media was coordinated as they used the same hateful headlines when i travel in europe people ask me why american media hates elon now i can share the huge bribes they receive to spread malicious lies thanks for finding this corruption.
Again just a few of the business operations tomsen roiters does that may have nothing to do with the news anti money laundering tools kyc services regulatory compliance software financial crime prevention tools data analytics tools workflow automation solutions cloud based platforms and you guys know all year i've been saying that this lawfare needs to end it's absolutely a real thing i'm just not sure with this specific data we can actually connect these dots but i'm also not naive so i know that we don't have to have tangible evidence to know what's really going on behind the scenes or underneath the headlines there could absolutely be spoken or unspoken agreements for many of these government contracts where the understanding is okay you have to go make elon's life difficult i just think we're at a time in culture where way too many people are reading one post without really verifying anything and then sharing it as if it's gospel so don't misunderstand me i'm not at all trying to make an argument one way or another for what i think is going on here the truth is i have no idea all i wanted to do here was at a bit more context to this conversation so you all can come to a more informed decision.
