With a million passengers passing through every day it’s also one of the busiest transport hubs in the world. Its 23 platforms see the arrival and departure of trains nearly every minute of every day.
It’s an architecturally stunning station built at the end of the 19th century and was the wonder of the British Raj with a magnificent setting on the banks of the Hooghly River, running through India’s cultural and artistic capital, also known as “The City of Joy.”
Cameras immerse viewers in the hustle and bustle of Howrah, as station staff deal with the challenges of keeping this massive and complex station up and running and the trains moving on their journeys to every corner of India.

It first opened in 1854 and within a hundred years grew to be the busiest station in the world surpassing Gare Saint-Lazare in Paris, Grand Central Station in New York, and Liverpool Street Station in London.
