Starlink is an awesome service that promises to eliminate poor internet connection in remote areas and monopolistic pricing from legacy broadband providers. Though the promises of Starlink are quite likely to be fulfilled, there is a major unintended consequence that is rarely discussed. Starlink in its full form is expected to have a minimum of 30,000 active satellites. To put that in perspective, there are only 6,000 total satellites in orbit right now. As a result, SpaceX will be increasing the total satellite count several-fold by implementing Starlink internet. The main concerns with launching so many satellites are of course light and space pollution which Nasa has rated as being a significant issue. This video describes the various issues with launching Starlink and why we should be very cautious before embarking on such a project.
