Elon Musk has been suggesting that Mars is just around the corner for over a decade at this point. In fact, when Elon Musk founded SpaceX in 2002, he thought that SpaceX could reach Mars by 2010. Yet, here we are 11 years later with a new goal of 2026. SpaceX has been making significant progress when it comes to rocket reusability, reliability, and cost. However, Starship is still just in the beginning stages of development, so what is a more realistic timeframe for Space to reach Mars. Well, in order to get to Mars, SpaceX will have to overcome a plethora of significant challenges from figuring out how to land on Mars to how to refuel Starship on Mars. This video outlines the various challenges in actually getting to Mars and estimates when SpaceX may actually succeed in putting people on Mars.
