SpaceX has been spending the last several years improving the reliability of Falcon 9 in order to build a massive constellation of Starlink satellites that can provide rural places with speedy satellite internet. Though this is a great endeavor, it only applies to a niche demographic of people. A similar endeavor that may appeal to a much larger demographic is speedy satellite service for our mobile devices. Even in the largest cities, wireless service is not always the best, and traditional wireless services can't compete with the reliability of satellite service. Unfortunately, SpaceX can't compete in this market without cooperation from cell phone makers. However, this is not the case with Apple as they are the cell phone makers. There have been some reports that Apple is trying to leverage this power and launch their own satellite wireless service for their iPhone, iPad, and Mac customers. This video explains the viability of Apple's space plan and how they could ditch carriers and rival SpaceX at the same time.
