Environmental threats to aircraft take many forms and each pose unique dangers. In this episode, a woman’s first ever flight becomes truly terrifying when ice freezes the engine of the light aircraft she’s travelling on. Her husband records the doomed flight while holding their 7-month-old son on his lap. As the pilot attempts to land in a snow-covered field there is a hidden danger which will threaten the lives of everyone onboard. In Dubai, a British family are caught up in a crash caused by a sudden change in wind direction. Passengers record the chaos inside the plane as fire breaks out. The family, along with other panicking passengers, rush to escape before the fire spreads and causes a catastrophic explosion. In 2009, passengers flying out of New York had no idea their flight was about to make headlines around the world. A few minutes after take-off, the plane was hit by a flock of geese, knocking out both engines. With no power and the plane rapidly losing altitude over Manhattan, the pilot quickly realised they wouldn’t be able to make it to the nearest airport. It was then he made a decision that would transform him into one of the most famous pilots in the world. In Puerto Rico, a couple’s late summer break is shattered by the imminent arrival of a major hurricane – and they find themselves caught up in a frantic rush to board the last plane off the island before the deadly category 5 hurricane hits.
