Belmarsh prison was built in 1991 to house Britain’s most violent criminals, but there is another fearsome side to Belmarsh. Episode 2 in this riveting series explores the untold story of a brutal prison torn apart by gang rivals who fight to control a destructive trade in drugs.
There are 64 different gangs in the prison. Enemies outside, they are determined to carry on their deadly battles inside. In just 4 months in 2021 there were nearly 40 attacks between gang-affiliated prisoners, making the wings of Belmarsh a very dangerous place. What does it take to control the gangs? We find out first hand from the officers on the front line and the inmates they had to guard, people like ex-gang member Bobby Kasanga, and former drug addict Daniel Marczewski, who bring to life in graphic detail the vicious conflicts and unthinkable acts of violence that are part of daily life inside Belmarsh.
