Some of Stanford U. Prof. Nick Bloom's and business school Prof. John Roberts' peers in economics believe that bad management practices can't exist in competitive industries, except in the short run. For example, in their view, companies in developing countries may not be adopting quality control systems that are common in countries with higher wages because wages are so low that repairing defects is cheap.
