The payments industry is going through an unprecedented level of upheaval that is being driven by the migration to digital commerce. This transition is forcing payment companies to move from closed to open systems, which is completely different than how business used to be done, shared Visa CEO Charlie Scharf. "Everyone who is in the flow of [the payment] transaction should be scared to death... [Everyone] should sit back and ask, 'Can I be replaced?' And theoretically they can."
