138 million Americans have a friend or family member who is suffering from substance addiction. Its effects are widespread and nondiscriminatory affecting all race, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Using empirical evidence, Tadia James, an MBA student at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, challenges our treatment of those battling addiction and illuminates the impact it has on society. This insightful and heartfelt talk is a call to action: Addiction is not a choice, it is a disease tainted in stigma that must be addressed.
