Earlier this week, Live Science announced the discovery of hundreds of stone structures in the Western Sahara, dating back to between 10,000 and 3,000 years ago. The study area is a 3.5 square mile plot of land that is relatively untouched by archaeologists, but a new booked titled “The Archaeology of Western Sahara: A Synthesis of Fieldwork, 2002 to 2009” sheds new light on this unknown world.
Between the dates mentioned in the title of the paper, archaeologists conducted a series of field surveys, small-scale excavations, as well as analysing satellite images on Google Earth and they discovered more than 400 ancient stone monuments.
