摘要

At the end of last week came the news of an Old Kingdom cemetery discovered on the Giza Plateau, with an impressive double tomb and a number of artefacts. Located to the southeast of the main pyramid region, it was excavated in August 2018, when 450 cubic metres of sand had to be moved so that archaeologists could reach the double tomb. This was one of several tombs discovered as well communal burial shafts. Most Egyptian finds in recent months have been of the later Ptolemaic period, so to uncover Old Kingdom archaeology is particularly exciting. The Oldest tomb is cut from the limestone and is dated to the 5th dynasty, around 2500 BC and was built to house the remains of two people. Watch the video to learn more.
