There is a body of thought that the Pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure, situated on the Giza Plateau have in fact been reworked and substantially enlarged at least once in their long history.
In fact, some even believe that these pyramids didn’t reach their current height until much later, with the Pyramid of Khafre reaching its height in the 18th Dynasty, the the Pyramid of Menkaure, in the 26th Dynasty, or Saite period, which was a time of major building at Giza.
