The famous engineer, industrial designer, technology entrepreneur responsible for the likes of SpaceX has caused quite a stir with Egyptologists and eminent figures like Zahi Hawass have been made to look somewhat silly, in my opinion.
Hawass isn’t know for his sense of humour and here he has totally misread a tweet, which is obviously a joke from Elon Musk.
On July 31st Musk showed his interest in Ancient Egypt and tweeted ‘Aliens built the pyramids obv. It got 86,600 retweets, 544,300 likes and 26,200 replies.
He then followed it up with Ramesses II was "cool emoji". Then a third tweet stated the fact “the Great Pyramid was the tallest structure made by humans for 3,800 years. Three Thousand, eight hundred years.” he says, whilst sharing a wikipedia link.
The day after, he follows up the tweet by saying “This BBC article provides a sensible summary for how it was done”, with this link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/egyptians/pyramid_builders_01.shtml
So there is no doubt Musk was just having a laugh with the first tweet, anybody can see he wasn’t being serious. He was provoking a reaction. Any engineer would obviously take interest in the great pyramid and if you were Elon Musk and wanted to tweet something for fun, to provoke a reaction.
But it seems various people including a lot of the press and especially eminent Egyptologist Zahi Hawass have taken the tweet very seriously, Zahi even making a video to explain why it wasn't aliens that built the pyramids.
Now, Musk is clear taking the p*ss - having a laugh - why can't some people see this? Watch this video to learn more about this funny story.
