摘要

Last week I reported on the discovert of 13 ancient Egyptian coffins discovered in Saqqara and yesterday, the Ministry of Antiquities gave us another update. In a Facebook post, Egyptian authorities explained they have found 14 more coffins, giving a total of 27. Like the others, they date back to around 500 BC, making them Late Period in Ancient Egyptian history, an era that doesn’t often excite the media in the same way the Old Kingdom pyramids and New Kingdom kings do, but it’s an interesting discovery nonetheless. In other news from Egypt, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have got the green light to convert Giza into what they call ‘The Capital of World Tourism.” 52 acres of land behind the new Grand Egyptian Museum has been annexed to make the region tourism friendly. A 2km in length and half a km wide walkway is already being made linking the museum to the Giza Pyramids, an underground metro, and there is also a proposed cable car project to link the Giza Plateau with important hotels. There will be at least 10 cable car stations in the region. I should note that the final station is outside of the archaeological area of the pyramids.
