摘要
If there is one Ancient Egyptian tradition we would probably all welcome back in the 21st century it would probably be the Ancient Egyptian Festival of Drunkenness. Until recently, its something I knew very little about yet for me, the information I’m presenting probably makes this one of the most interesting videos I’ve ever done and towards the end, I’ll reveal to you my revelation of how I think the Festival of Drunkenness could be related to the true origins of the Great Sphinx.
The festival was honouring the day Ra saved the Egyptians from the wrath of the goddess Hathor by intoxicating her with alcohol, and was celebrated on the 20th day of the first month of Akhet, the season of the inundation in the ancient Egyptian calendar.
It was celebrated in temples, in private houses and shrines, and those that took part in the celebrations were served with copious amounts of alcohol and were allowed to drink until they got completely drunk and unconscious.
In this video I tell you all about this little-known and outrageous ancient Egyptian festival, the story behind the ritual drinking and how we can trace its origins all the way back to the pre-dynastic era.
I then go on to explain how it could potentially explain the original pre-dynastic origins of the Great Sphinx - as a bloodthirsty statue of an Egyptian lion goddess.
