摘要

Not many ancient artefacts are more significant than this, a 35-40,000 year old statue carved out of mammoth ivory using only a flint stone knife, and being one of the oldest-known statues ever discovered and the oldest-known zoomorphic statue in the world. It belongs to the Aurignacian culture of Upper Palaeolithic Euorpe, a culture that extended from 43,000 to 26,000 years ago, creating the first European culture of modern humans. They also created the Venus of Hohle Fels Cave from mammoth ivory, which, like the lion man of Hohlenstein-Stadel cave in Germany, also dates back to between 40,000 and 35,000 years ago – the oldest Venus statue ever discovered. You can watch a video on the Venus on the History with Kayleigh channel, here: https://youtu.be/rgFJFMT5E8M The Swabian Jura Mountains of Southern Germany is home to a number of incredible archaeological sites and the Lion Man is arguably the most interesting and amazing, but what is it?
