摘要
This video is a bit of a change of scene compared my usual content but it’s history, and it’s a period of time I personally find more interesting than most, and that’s the Viking era.
A few years ago I did one of those MyHeritage DNA tests and discovered I was 58% English, 5.8% Irish, Scottish and Welsh, and a whopping 36.2% Scandinavian, which likely indicates Viking ancestry.
My hometown of Leicester, in the heart of England, was once one of the most important towns of the Danelaw, a region that was ruled by the Vikings in the late 9th century AD.
So my interest in the Vikings is personal, but also because I love history and this really is a fascinating era to study. With that in mind, I really wanted a record of last year’s major Viking discovery on the Ancient Architects channel, a confirmed date for when the first Europeans reached North America.
No, it wasn’t Christopher Columbus in 1492, it was the Vikings more than 400 years earlier – and the specific date was 1021 AD. Watch the video to learn more!
