The year is 2022 and after releasing three videos on the Younger Dryas climate catastrophe in the past week, I’ve had a surprising number of comments telling me the Earth is flat. 50. 50 comments telling me the earth is Flat. And hence, it’s compelled me to make a short video, with a history spin, because this is a belief that was meant to have died out more than 2,000 years ago.
So what I want to say in this video is that even our ancient ancestors knew the earth was not flat. It didn’t take the great minds of NASA to come to this conclusion and back in 1980 on the TV series called Cosmos, before I was even born, Carl Sagan explained how ancient people came to the conclusion the Earth was not flat.
I saw a clip going viral on Twitter just a few days ago, with Sagan explaining how the Libyan-Greek scholar and chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria, Eratosthenes, figured out the Earth was spherical more than 2,000 years ago. In this video I explain what Eratosthenes did and also show the viral clip.
Still, proponents of Flat Earth have still tried to argue against Sagan and Eratosthenes and although I personally don't see any debate, I've never seen any evidence for a Flat Earth, I know that many people will forever cling onto the idea as part of their worldly outlook and ideology.
I’m not here to debunk the Flat Earth movement, all I wanted to highlight in this video is how the Ancient Greeks measured the Earth and for those not on Twitter, to show you the great clip from Carl Sagan, a great visual explanation for how the Greeks tackled scientific problems more than two thousand years ago. And also to remember Eratosthenes, a great mind who devised a clever method of estimating the size of the Earth.
