Over the last 15 years, a new class of "venture philanthropy" organizations has brought the tools and approaches of venture capital to the social sector, with a goal of catalyzing transformative ideas by providing growth capital for the social entrepreneurs behind them. In this session, Kelly Cutler and Leah Staub-DeLong, who lead the Investment Selection team at the pioneering venture philanthropy fund New Profit, will discuss their organization's evolution, sophisticated approach to due diligence, and decision-making process behind choosing which grantees will become part of the New Profit portfolio. Cutler and Staub-DeLong will also discuss the broader landscape of venture philanthropy organizations and give insight into the diverse funding approaches and portfolios of others in the field.
