Ancient CART RUTS of Malta: Mystery SOLVED?!

摘要
Malta is famous in the study of the ancient world, because of what have been called ‘Cart ruts’, incised pairs of deep grooves cut into the limestone bedrock, and they have often been the centre of debate in online forums and on social media for years.
Fringe theorists call them prehistoric, made by ancient high technology, evidence of the wheel or long lost machines in Ice Age Europe. Some think they’re remnants of a prediluvian civilisation, as is often the explanation given for anything not yet fully understood.
A few years ago I speculated on Twitter that they were merely Roman in origin, but I was shot down by multiple people, with some pointing out that the cart ruts run into the sea, so must have been made when sea level was much lower. Others said they were so deeply incised that they couldn’t be just 2,000 or so years old.
I never actually went forward with an independent research project on the cart ruts but I was pleased to see the release of a new study that may in fact prove that in part, I was right.
