In 2003, naturalist Timothy Treadwell and his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard were attacked and killed by a thousand pound grizzly in Alaska’s Katmai National Park. Their deaths, which became the subject of Werner Herzog's 2005 documentary Grizzly Man, were certainly tragic, but Treadwell's contempt for the rules of the park and determination to have up-close interactions with the wild animals made them far from unpredictable.
