摘要

Anonymous sharing app Secret got blasted by Marc Andreessen (without calling it by name). Now, Jason says, half of his close friends oppose it, and the other half invested. The Information's Jessica Lessin says this is the way forward, and whether VCs invest or not, apps like this are bound to continue. While Jason might call her a "techodeterminist," she may be right. Github held the spotlight after a former developer and designer went public with allegations of sexist bullying and retaliation. Airbnb is raising half a billion dollars at a $10b valuation ahead of its likely IPO this year. Meanwhile, Uber and Lyft are capped at 150 drivers a piece at any given time in Seattle. And in the Bing Launch of the Week: Nate Silver's Five Thirty Eight debuts at ESPN, Google announces Android Wear, and Neil Young is pushing for higher quality audio files in his Pomo Music Kickstarter. Rafat Ali of Skift and Jessica Lessin of The Information join us on the news roundtable. Never miss an episode! Highlights: 5:30 - JC intro topic of Secret and Whisper (Marc Andreessen). 7:12 - JC: Jessica, should Secret exist in the world? 7:15 - JL: Absolutely. Some ugly use cases, but we don't have comprehensive sense of how it's being used. 8:03 - JC: Technodeterminist approach. But we've seen these platforms result in massive bullying and suicide. 10:05 - RA: You can look at CL and ask the same thing. After some evolution, they did shut down adult classified. I agree with Jessica. Two questions: 1) should they exist? 2) should VCs fund it? 10:55 - JC: Rafat, would you? 111:00 - RA. More a vertical person, so if there were a vertical to apply, then yes. 11:35 - JL: I wouldn't because of skepticism surrounding the business model. 14:49 - Wistia ad read 16:05 - GitHub story intro 17:10 - Why more allegations now than in the last 20 years? 17:15 - JL: More people speaking out, Twitter, etc. Clearing a topic of discussion. there are enough women in tech that people are talking about it more. Every circumstance is different but you do hear things that are disturbing. But the women who are in tech are proud about being there, and want more to join them. 20:25 - JC: Rafat, any discrimination? 20:40 - RA: I'll have to say no. I came to America w/ $800 in my pocket and here I am. This story was only possible in America. You recognized me early, so that says a lot. 22:33 - JC: We focus on diversity at all events and the program here at LAUNCH 23:05 - JC: Airbnb raising more money after porn party. Airbnb did the right thing and send $24k in cleanup, etc. 24:00 - annotation? 24:23 - JC: $10b valuation insane? 24:35 - RA: we covered this from the very start. We have defined the convo around Airbnb v. NYC ...They're poised to define the global hospitality industry. 30:05 - ShareFile ad read 32:27 - Uber / Lyft / Sidecar cap in Seattle intro 34:00 - JC: Would the cabs have become more client-centric w/out Uber / Lyft? 34:10 JL: no I don't think so. 34:20 - RA: The real revolution is happening outside of Manhattan. I live in Queens. Our lives have been changed 100% because of UberX. 35:50 - JC: Did you move to Queens because these things existed? 37:55 - Launch of the Week intro 38:12 - Nate Silver - Five Thirty Eight 38:55 - Android Wear 40:39 - Neil Young Pono 42:50 - JL - Five Thirty Eight - applaud them. They're very smart. Neil Young's Pono - I have not ordered one. I enjoyed the campaign. Music audio is hot right now. I think it will be successful, but winner: Nate Silver. 45:20: RA: Nate Silver - I'm a media entrepreneur, as you are. I wish he had the gumption to do it outside a huge corporation. 47:15 JC: How easy would it have been to raise money?
