Today I'm joined by Marcello Sciarrino, Co-Owner at Island Auto Group. During COVID, dealers were snapping up stores at three, four, five times their best earnings ever — and financing it all at 2% floor plan costs. Now floor plan is at 7-8%, earnings have come back to earth, and hundreds of groups are buried under debt they can't service. Marcello runs 20 stores across New York and New Jersey — the 37th largest business in New York State, ahead of the Yankees and the Giants — and he watched peers go from 3 stores to 12 overnight while he and his partners sat on their hands.
