Microsoft is quietly replacing one of its most widely used apps, and people are not happy about it. Outlook has hundreds of millions of users, but somehow there were already multiple versions floating around. Instead of cleaning it up, Microsoft decided to push everyone into a brand new Outlook that feels simpler on the surface but comes with some pretty questionable tradeoffs. At first, it looked like a modern upgrade. Cleaner design, better integration with other Microsoft tools, and a heavy push into AI with Copilot handling emails, calendars, and scheduling. But once people actually started using it, things fell apart fast. Core features were missing. Offline access barely worked. Plugins and enterprise tools broke. Even basic functionality like search and file handling felt worse. And since the new Outlook is basically a web app wrapped as desktop software, it lost a lot of what made the original versions powerful in the first place. Then came the bigger concerns. Ads showing up directly in your inbox. More data being routed through Microsoft’s cloud. And users realizing they were being forced into this whether they liked it or not. What started as a “streamlined experience” ended up feeling like a downgrade. And for a lot of people, this is just another sign that Windows itself is slowly turning into something they barely recognize anymore.
