There was some momentary consternation out there today, as for a moment, the Cybertruck had a federal luxury tax on the all-wheel drive variant of over $8000 and over $13,000 for the cyberbeast. It seems like that was a mistake because in Canada, the federal luxury tax is for vehicles over $100,000 but that are also under a certain GVWR. Gross vehicle weight rating. Shortly thereafter, it was confirmed the Cybertruck is now luxury tax-free. And yes, the online configurator in Canada has been updated to reflect the change. I did see a lot of people bokeying at the price for the foundation series all-wheel drive, which in this case is the base model for now, being at $138,000. But when you factor in the exchange rate from the US dollar to the Canadian dollar, it's effectively the same price right around $100,000, which leaves the cyberbeast starting at $166,000.

Both variants of the Cybertruck are expected to be delivered in October or November 2024. Tesla has also expanded the availability to demo drive a Cybertruck. I'll have this link below. You can plug in your zip code and there are more locations available. It looks like Tesla's gone through all the reservation holders for the Cybertruck in the US, meaning roughly 15 to 20,000 people have opted for the foundation series. The expectation has always been that there were well over 1 million reservations for the Cybertruck and now it's looking like Tesla will end up selling between 15 and 20,000 foundation series Cybertruck in the US after working through that whole list.

There are people out there saying that's not a good sign for demand. Personally, I don't really agree with that. I think it's pretty obvious a majority of people are waiting for the more affordable variants, especially when you consider some of the challenges with the benefits of the foundation series. And two, when it comes to power share, many users were reporting much higher installation costs than I think many were expecting. All of this brings us one step closer to the more affordable variants of the Cybertruck and it's looking like that may happen sometime during quarter three.

Tesla owners of Kentucky shared they got word that Tesla's sales license has been granted in Kentucky just today. Tesla will be selling from Louisville soon. Senator Warren has long been out to get the ultra-rich and of course, Elon falls in that category and they've had many public disputes in the past. Remember Warren's ultra-millionaire tax act, which was looking to tax capital, not income, and it would take 2% of household wealth north of $50 million up to $1 billion. And then 3% over $1 billion. To that, Elon said transferring capital from highly efficient capital allocators like entrepreneurs to highly inefficient allocators like the government would destroy the economy making everyone worse off. I really don't think it's worth spending too much time on this, the main reason being that Senator Warren has written letters like this to Tesla's board in the past. And so far, Tesla nor the board have actually ever responded to her. So I'm not sure they will this time around either. She brought up things like the chip reallocation, which we covered at length earlier this year. She argued that the existence of XAI creates unavoidable conflicts of interest, but again, we've talked at length how they're really not direct competitors when you actually understand the business models of both. Not to mention that long term Tesla is likely going to benefit heavily from the existence of XAI. And that most of the talent currently at XAI was never coming to Tesla no matter what they offer. So for Elon, it was let them go to some other company or start XAI Warren asked for the answers to her 10 questions no later than August 23rd this year. Warren still hyper focused on Tesla and Elon. You may like him, you may hate him. There are very few people that take the risks that he takes that are willing to take those risks. And as a result, he deserves the rewards. Having politicians tell me that I've done something wrong, I find that very distasteful just because my outcome is success. That's un-American.

Acacia energy has started construction of a 410 megawatt hour battery storage project that will use Tesla megapacks commercial operations are expected to begin in 2026. Some of you have been asking about the sizing of these projects. For me, just a simple rule of thumb from zero up to 500 megawatt hours, those are smaller projects from 500 megawatt hours to 1000 megawatt hours or one gigawatt hour. Those are moderate size. Then in my book, anything over 1000 megawatt hours or one gigawatt hour would be a large project. They said the brandale best is one of four projects under development in the state. Charge map has now integrated Tesla's superchargers into its program across most of Europe, including Germany. Charge map users do still use the Tesla mobile app. Charge map users have access to the supercharger network and more than 1500 others. As the name implies, Charge map aggregates many of the different charging providers into one app that you can sort in filter. In short, their inclusion of the supercharger network should provide a slight boost to Tesla's utilization rates across Europe. For the Model S and the Model X in the United States right now, Tesla is offering a new three year bundle for $5,000, which will include FSD, free supercharging and premium connectivity.

Naturally, a three year bundle and you would think this would be a good option for people looking to lease. If you just paid the $99 per month though, over a three year term that works out to $3,564 premium connectivity for three years adds another $300, meaning you would have to supercharge $1,136 worth just to break even on this deal. If you assume 10,000 miles per year for the lease over three years is 30,000 miles, and then if you assume an average cost per mile for supercharging of 11 cents, that would be about $3,300 worth of free supercharging with this deal. That is, if you drive the max mileage allotment and do all of your charging at a supercharger.

The word is, they're going to offer this bundle in Canada as well, but they've yet to put it on the Canadian configurator. In the US, Quicksilver is now an option for the Model 3 for an additional $2,000. On Tesla's supercharger page, they now have Nissan listed as coming soon. In 2023, Nissan sold just over 20,000 EVs in the US between the Aria and the Leaf. FSD version 12.5.1.3 has now begun rolling out to some early access customers so far, hardware for only, this is on software2024.26.10.

Al Root wrote a piece for Barons talking about his experience with FSD12.5. It was very fair, but overall he did say it's much better than it once was. He said the car isn't perfect, some mistakes get made, but the overall experience with version 12.5 was eye opening. The car simply drove way better than in 2023 and early 2024. For me, the number of interventions was down with version 12.5 and the number of drives with zero interventions was up. It may not seem like much, but a fair review, dare I say nearly a positive review from a mainstream publication is a breath of fresh air. Rivian Tracker on X said they were able to confirm the charging port for the upcoming R2 has been moved to the rear driver side which will make it fully compatible with Tesla superchargers.

We knew retaliation was coming from China and here it is, they've lodged a complaint with a World Trade Organization over the EU's decision to impose tariffs. They said we urged the EU to immediately correct its wrongdoing and together safeguard China-EU economic and trade cooperation as well as the stability of the EV supply chain.
