I also think it's important to remember that posts like this from a bizzle will cut both ways. He said Republican here just bought a Tesla because of Elon, which is great. But at the end of the day, it's always going to boil down to the best products at the best prices. I know it's very loud right now, but as we enter 2025, all of the political noise will turn down. But from a policy perspective, there are some things to consider. Let's start with JD Vance. Late last year, JD introduced the Drive American Act, which would eliminate over $100 billion in existing EV subsidies and replace them with the America First Vehicle Credit to promote gas powered vehicles made in the US. At the time, JD said right now, the official policy of the Biden admin is to spend billions of dollars on subsidies for EVs made overseas.

I'm still not sure how people are getting away making statements like this because those EV subsidies are for EVs made in North America, not overseas. The whole point of these subsidies is to make us less reliant on EVs and the supply chain from overseas. This America First Vehicle Credit would provide up to $7,500 for new gas or diesel powered vehicles, including hybrids based on a vehicle's payload and seating capacity. The vehicle must be assembled in the US with American parts by highly paid American workers. They said Jeep vehicles built by the UAW in Toledo would qualify for the credit if the workers at the facility are given a significant raise.

Now, of course, JD Vance is a Senator for Ohio, so comments like this are understandable. On the climate, JD said even if there was a climate crisis, I don't know how the way to solve it is buying more Chinese manufactured EVs. But just two years before that, JD said society had a climate problem because cleaner sources of energy have not taken significant market share. Case in point, things can change. JD also said I think the inflation reduction act is mostly a lot of green energy stuff. I think it's made our economy less energy independent. It's also added a lot of costs out there and a lot of federal spending that's forced the inflation prices. And I also think it's sort of hastening a transition away from things like the gas driven cars that most Americans don't want.

So I think there's a lot of bad policy in there. And I'd like to get rid of a lot of it. From everything I'm reading, it seems like Trump will not have the ability to unilaterally repeal the entire inflation reduction act, but he definitely may be able to make the implementation of it more difficult. So whether it's tightening some of the limits for tax credit availability or maybe holding back certain grants, that type of action seems a lot more likely than an entire repeal of the IRA. But if you actually look for some data, Fidelity said Republican states account for 58% of the projects announced under the IRA, Democrat states are 32% and swing states are 10%. So Trump and JD may feel an obligation to publicly speak out against the IRA, but they cannot overlook all of the jobs and investments.

On that front, from the DOE, North American battery and EV supply chain investments grew to more than $250 billion by the end of 2023. Investment by manufacturing products shows that cell production accounted for about half of all investments by the end of last year, followed by EV assembly at 22% and minerals at 12%. Looking at the chart, here's the line where the infrastructure law went into effect, and here's the line where the inflation reduction act went into effect. You can clearly see the impact they've had. Naturally, we have Fred Lambert saying that some of JD's policies would crush Tesla's sales in the US. At least relative to the current administration, Elon and Trump have had a friendly relationship, and that was before Elon came out publicly endorsing Trump.

And while these reports were later denied that Elon may become a policy advisor to Trump if he were to win, I still think it could actually be the outcome. So even if it's never an official role, I'm pretty confident that Trump would be going to Elon for feedback on certain topics, and that Trump would not want to do anything that would deliberately harm Tesla. And on the more optimistic side, there is a chance that Elon could help Trump and JD to see the light when it comes to Tesla's ability to help America become more energy independent. And I agree with Gene Munster on this one, as he said, the significance of the endorsement goes well beyond EVs and could pave the way for Trump's administration to be pro autonomy.

This would likely quicken regulatory and state approval for these systems unlocking a new, highly profitable revenue stream for the company. I would also argue that it's likely that in the event of a Trump presidency, the weaponization of these federal agencies against Elon would actually come to an end. I think it's largely overlooked how much time money in brain cycles are actually required to fight all of these battles against these federal agencies and not just for Tesla, but all of Elon's companies. I'm really not a fan of generalizations like saying a left or the right always does one thing or another, but it is true that Elon endorsing Trump could bring a larger portion of those on the right into the EV realm.

So perhaps Elon endorsing Trump will open the door for more Republicans to begin to understand that it's actually Tesla that has the most American made cars. This weekend, Elon said dangerous times ahead, two people on separate occasions have already tried to kill me in the past eight months. They were arrested with guns about a 20 minute drive from Tesla's HQ in Texas. For what it's worth, I'm in the camp that believes Tesla will succeed, no matter who is the president, but it's also true over the next year or so, it seems likely that from a political standpoint, there may be some policy changes that impact Tesla. Some good, others not so much. Chuck Cook has reported that at least for him, the phantom drain problem on the cyber truck has been improved greatly. Over a 15 day period, his battery drain was only 11%. It was parked in a tree cover driveway with Sentry Mode and cabin overheat protection turned off, one software update was downloaded and installed. 11% is still material for a two week period, but this is much better than it was before. Chuck also said that Tesla 8s operators were out driving his left turn. Chuck thought it could be for 12.4.5, but Elon replied saying 12.5.

Elon also reiterated the amount of testing time it takes to figure out if the new AI is better than the existing AI, as measured by miles between interventions, is the limiting factor on progress. The better FSD gets, the longer it takes to find interventions. And yes, I'm aware that plenty of people are having no trouble finding interventions where they live. But since version 12.4.3 has seemingly stalled out when it comes to an actual wide release, there's a chance that 12.5 is now the version that is the one going to a wide release. That's pure speculation on my part, but if the validation testing for 12.5 goes well, there's a chance it could trump version 12.4.3. Holmars did post a video of 12.4.3 driving on the wrong side of the road while attempting to make a left turn, and this is not the first time we've seen this on 12.4.3. Holmars did however say they already fixed it, but there's a reason 12.4.3 has not gone to wide release, and there are clips out there like this one showing it going right through a red light, which is odd because I know a lot of us experience slamming on the brakes, even at a yellow light.

We're also hearing that with FSD12.5 Tesla vehicles will be able to communicate road closures or other obstacles back to the rest of the fleet in real time. This will turn FSD into software that's constantly improving as the fleet gathers more data instead of waiting for a software update. If you've ever used Waze, you'll likely be familiar with how this real time fleet communication can be beneficial.

The climate control UI is also supposed to get an update, but they're saying initially it'll just be changed for the Model 3 and Y. And the weather forecast app, which will be a pop out display when you tap the temperature reading, will be arriving with support for North America, Europe and other regions.

Warren Redlich put out a good video talking about what really happened with Elon in the Tesla Robotaxi event and the delay. Responding to it, Elon said I requested what I think is an important design change to the front and extra time allows us to show off a few other things. So the Robotaxi event is likely to be delayed, but we don't have a new date or a set timeline, it's probably just going to be a matter of how long this change actually takes.

And Warren did say he had two sources that were saying these Tesla engineers were very impressed with the change Elon requested. And today on X, Elon posted this image, which appears to be a cybercab prototype that does indeed have four doors. I'm pretty confident this image is AI generated, but Tesla could be taking some design cues from this for the next gen platform. All I know for sure is that event cannot come soon enough.

And China has added Shanghai to a list of top tier cities allowing the use of driverless Robotaxis in which no safety supervisors are present. For now though, it's only about 127 miles of roads. There was a long article from the information talking about how Tesla's 4680s really haven't lived up to the battery day expectations. But I think they buried the lead as toward the end of the article they said the 4680 team aims to validate its engineering approach to high volume production on manufacturing by September. First though, Elon wants them to scale up a fix the 4680 team found to a flaw in the 4680 that often causes the core of the batteries, the electrode sheets wound into the shape of a cylinder, then inserted into the 4680 can to collapse in on themselves such a mishap can ruin the battery. Elon ordered the team to produce a one off 4680 battery pack containing both dry cathodes and a resolution for core collapse by this month to go into a cyber truck that Elon wants to publicly show. Earlier this month, the team successfully produced this one off battery. Now it must figure out how to make the 4680 with the fixes fast and at large volume. So what this means is the 4680 team has successfully produced a battery with a dry cathode and we know that Tesla has already cracked the code for the DBE on the anode side. Now we know what they say about prototypes and Tesla still has to figure this out at scale which has been the challenge but potentially there is some progress being made.

Acacia energy has secured financing for one of the largest four hour batteries globally and will add more than 1.66 gigawatt hours of storage capacity to the national electricity market in Australia. Early works have begun on the project which will feature Tesla Mega Pack technology and it's set to commence commercial operations in 2026. This project will need around 415 Tesla Mega Packs and at $1 million each you can do the math.

We got some awesome free marketing for Tesla in a recent Mr. Beast video he had 10 cyber trucks and the people that were in this game basically had the option to shoot a free throw and if they make it they win one for one of their subscribers. I did watch this part of the video and only two people actually made the free throw so I think only two cyber trucks were actually given away but still awesome promotion. I say that because this video is the number one on YouTube's trending and in two days it already has 105 million views.

Maybe it's just me but I think it's time to start punishing people like this. Tesla is now offering an energy boost option for the Model Y for $1,600 this one unlocks 50 miles of range. Depending on your battery some others have a $1,000 option for 30 miles of range.

In May Elon said the 260 mile range Model Y's built over the past several months actually have more range that can be unlocked. At the time they were waiting for regulatory approval. People love to criticize this move by Tesla acting like they're trying to win one over on their customers but the customers that bought this Model Y with lower range actually paid less for their vehicle.

And by the way reserving batteries like this actually hurts Tesla because they go all that time with the batteries in the car that they're not actually being paid for.

Tonight is the deadline for all 27 EU members to take their stand on the matter. There's still a few months where both sides can negotiate but this does impact Tesla and they've already had to raise prices on the Model 3 for some countries. Tesla was looking to obtain a patent license ahead of their plans to launch 5G vehicles in the UK. Tesla wanted the courts to determine fair licensing rules but a judge said in a written ruling Tesla's bid for a license must be thrown out but Tesla's claim to revoke three of Inter Digital's patents can continue.

Tesla's move to 5G has a lot to do with lower latency and higher data throughput. Think about things like OTA updates, autonomous driving, optimists, and then communication in and around its factories. For BMW in quarter 2, 17.4% of all vehicles delivered were purely electric. That was up from quarter 2 last year when that number was 14.1%. According to JD Power, in every state except Maine and West Virginia, the total cost of ownership for an EV over 5 years is less than a comparable gas vehicle.

EV owners in Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, and New Jersey will save more than $8,000 on their vehicle versus a comparable gas vehicle. And so we're seeing a little bit of a slowdown right now. We won't get to a million just because the market's not developing but it will get there. And so we're going to be guided by the customer but what I like to tell people is get an electric vehicle and drive it. So as the charging infrastructure gets more robust, as EVs become more affordable, I definitely think we're going to see that growth and the next 10, 11, 12 years is going to be pretty transformative in the way people move.

GM not expecting to hit its 2025 EV targets is truly shocking. Tesla stock closed the day at $252.64 up 1.78% while the NASDAQ was up 0.4%.
