CyberCab production is underway, and the company is implementing a new "Reaction Injection Molding" (RIM) process, informally referred to as "the RIM job," to revolutionize its manufacturing. This innovative method involves injecting paint directly into the mold during the molding process, completely eliminating the need for a conventional paint shop.
This new RIM process significantly reduces manufacturing cycle times from hours to just minutes. It is touted as a major win for reducing CyberCab's emissions. More importantly, it delivers huge savings in cost, time, and factory space/footprint for CyberCab.
To put this into perspective, conventional automotive paint shops typically cost many hundreds of millions of dollars and involve an enormous amount of time. The adoption of the RIM process results in massively reduced costs, a massively reduced factory footprint per unit of output, and massively reduced production time, leading to lower overall costs, a smaller factory footprint, and much faster production.
